Achieving Volume and Length where Traditional Extensions Could Not

It is absolutely amazing how the evolution of new extension methods are transforming the industry and truly helping those who struggle with hair loss and receding hairlines.  When I began my career in hair extensions 20+ years ago The closest things we could offer to individual strand hair extensions were k tip extensions cut down into micro bond extensions.  These new methods have vastly transformed the hair enhancement industry in remarkable ways to being able to apply strand by strand applications with no heat and minimal detection. These breakthroughs are V-light and CombLine extension methods.

These 2 methods now allow us to  meet our clients' specific needs with unprecedented precision. As a hair extension expert and educator I’ve seen a dramatic increase from both men and women clients wanting both of these innovative application methods. With the raising numbers of covid hair loss, postpartum hair loss and hair loss due to operations, medications and health challenges, these modern techniques offer exceptional adaptability. The extensions can be placed in the crown and fringe area, hairline, on the part and even in receding hairline areas without detection. They are the perfect alternative to wearing a wig, topper or hair replacement system for those looking for another option.

What to Consider

CombLine or V light Extensions are intended to be a “Hair Filler”, not for all over application for length.  Instead they are intended to increase length and volume in specific areas.  They may also be combined with other methods for a completely customized look.  Mixing methods is the perfect way to integrate extensions and get the most natural look while keeping the integrity of your own natural hair.  We often add the individual strand extensions  around the hairline or in through the crown and utilize sew-in extensions, fusion/ k-tip extensions or sometimes tape-in extensions in the other areas for length and volume.  Our hair is not the same density from hairline to crown to nape, so using different types of extensions is the perfect way to get healthy, long lasting results. This also ensures each guest has a customized application that fits their hair’s needs along with matching their lifestyle and maintenance goals.

How Do You Apply the Invisible Extensions?

We only use professional luxury brands of extensions.  We custom match the various colors to each client’s hair and then prep the hair before your appointment.  We clarify and bathe the hair followed by a deep treatment on the mids and ends.  Blowdry and flat iron to make sure to get ideal adhesion.  We then take the extension hair and fan them into your own hair, combing them so that each individual hair finds its match.  Then depending on the method chosen, we utilize either the CombLine application tool with keratin and medical grade adhesive or the V Light adhesive brush it onto the given section and comb to blend.  With the V light from your hair to where the extension is applied.

What is the Maintenance for Individual Extensions?

Professional hair care in the salon and at home is imperative when you have hair extensions, but especially for these more sensitive applications. When we are attaching strands individually you need to understand they will not last as long as a K-Tip or Tap in extension. We lose 70-100 hairs a day on average so if a hair is attached to that hair, it will shed as well.  These methods typically last 4-8 weeks depending on care and shedding.  These are the steps to ensure longevity of your individual strand extensions;

  1. Only use professional shampoo, conditioner and styling products recommended by your stylist;

  2. Shampoo gently and avoid running your fingers through to your scalp in the application areas;

  3. Condition mids to ends; Same goes for oils and creams to style, mids to ends only;

  4. CombLine you may use a warm iron on the attachment point but V light it is recommended to stay away from the attachment area.

  5. Brush regularly with your extension brush (we supply one for you).

  6. Keep up with your regular maintenance directed by your stylist.

  7. If you get a tangle or feel “clumping” make an appointment right away to have your stylist take a look, untangle or remove the extension.

How Much do Individual Strand / V Light Extensions / CombLine Extensions Cost?

The application, education, certification and process for these innovative methods are time and labor intensive. An average price range to fill in thin areas of the hair; top, crown, bangs and sides starts at $200+ for the complete service. Every stylist or salon will defer in their pricing depending on the products they are using including the hair and the adhesive.  All CombLine products will be labelled with the CombLine registered logo and your stylist will be listed on their website as a certified professional (you will find us here as well).  V Light extension brands differ from company to company and there are differences in quality of product so make sure to read reviews and ask about ingredients.

V-Light & Combline Single Strand Extension Adhesive

The medical grade adhesive is safe on your skin, leaving no residue or damage. The V-Light and Combline single strand extensions adhesive is specifically designed to securely attach each individual strand of hair, ensuring a natural and seamless blend with your own hair. It provides a strong hold while still allowing for easy removal when it's time to take out the extensions.

Removal of The V Light or CombLine Extensions

Removal of V Light extensions is different from that of Combline.  With CombLine we utilize an oil base removal solution that is non carcinogenic.  We apply it to the bond, let it sit for a couple minutes and gently slide out the hair and comb any leftover adhesive.  With V Light Extensions we use a different removal solution and a heated tool to break down the cured adhesive.  This is one of the main differences between CombLine and V Light extensions.
