Extension Maintenance
EXTENSIONS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT WET FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME. EXCESSIVE MOISTURE CAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE WEIGHT AND TENSION ON THE NATURAL HAIR, AND MOISTURE CAN ALSO BREAKDOWN THE WEFT OVER TIME. ALWAYS DRY YOUR EXTENSIONS COMPLETELY AFTER WASHING/ SWIMMING.
Brushing
You always want to begin brushing at the ends of the hair first and work your way up toward the scalp to minimize breakage. Hold firmly where the extensions are applied while brushing to prevent too much tension on the hair. Do not brush the extension seam/bonds/ tapes themselves, instead brush just below contact points. For wefts, split the rows and section them apart to ensure you are brushing in between the rows as well. Use only the boar bristle brush provided by your stylist to brush, should a comb be used, it should not be used at the scalp.
Tangling
Extensions may get tangled if the hair is not brushed on a regular basis. Natural fallout of the natural hair can cause tangling in between rows and/or bonds. If this should occur, contact your stylist immediately. Please do not try to correct any problems on your own. Your stylist is the only person who can correct these issues should they arise. Failure to comply or seek immediate attention to these issues will void the warranty. Guests which come in with excessive tangling/matting will be charged an hourly rate to detangle, along with additional costs of services booked for that day.
Washing
Prevention of tangles is the most essential aspect of hair extensions. Use only professional products recommended by your stylist. If getting Keratin Bonds or Tape-Ins: Do NOT shampoo for at least 2-3 days after extensions are applied. You may rinse your hair and use a spray leave-in conditioner (recommended by your stylist). Weft Extensions may be shampooed immediately after application. When shampooing, DO NOT scrub the hair excessively. Use warm, not hot water, and massage the scalp, working the shampoo to the ends last. Rinse thoroughly. Use conditioner on the mids and ends of the hair only, gently comb through to distribute. Do not wash with the head facing down- always tilt head back, washing from top to bottom. And NEVER go to bed with wet hair!
Hair must be washed and completely dried after any activity causing excessive sweat. Build up of oils, sweat + product can cause the extensions to slide or lead to adhesive to leave a residue in the hair.
Extensions should not be left wet for extended periods of time. Excessive moisture can cause excessive weight and tension on the natural hair, and moisture can also breakdown the weft over time. Always dry your extensions completely after washing/swimming.
Just like with your own natural hair, you should advise not to allow chlorine and minerals from jacuzzis, pools, hard water, oceans or lakes to stay in hair extensions. Rinse thoroughly after swimming and use a clarifying shampoo to remove any build up. Follow up with a conditioner and let it sit for a few minutes on the hair, and rinse with warm water.
Styling
The misuse of styling tools such as combs, brushes, blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, crimpers, hot rollers (even those that your stylist may recommend) may or can result in damage to the hair extensions. Extra caution should be used when styling with any tools, and heat protectant recommended by your stylist should be used with each application of heat tool on the hair. Ensuring the extensions stay moisturized is key to retaining the longevity of the hair.
Sleeping
Style your hair into two loose braids, a low pony, or a loose high pony using a silk or satin e For. For side sleepers, a low bun is also fine. Silk pillow cases are always recommended and one will be provided in your extension take-home kit!
Coloring
Clients should NEVER color, perm, or use any other types of chemicals on the extensions without consulting their stylist first.
Product
Never use any over the counter products purchased at a drug store, cosmetic store, beauty supply store, or amazon, unless explicitly recommended by your stylist.
Maintenance
After having extensions applied, clients MUST return to the salon for routine follow-up maintenance + move up visits. Failure to do so will result in forfeit of any given warranty from the stylist. Also, failure to notify the stylist/salon of any problems experienced with extensions will result in forfeit of any given warranty from the stylist.
Bonds
It is normal to lose a few extensions per month. If this does occur within a specified time frame, do not panic, return to your stylist to have them replaced. (Similar to having touch ups done on a regular basis).
